Using Community Planning Practices to Effect Change & Make Great Places
What exactly do we mean by placemaking? A place is a geographic location that has an identity, personality and appeal to a broad cross section of citizenry. Great places include Annapolis, SoHo, Ann Arbor, Charleston, Cold Spring, Milford, Woodstock, and many others.
Through our placemaking initiative, we offer tours, forums, and conferences to
help citizens:
-
Learn about the demographic changes affecting our region
-
Discover the advantages of building community consensus
-
Find out about new innovative planning techniques
-
Determine the long-term sustainability of these new ideas
-
Learn how to get things done without a lot of money

| | | | Location: Newburgh Armory Unity Center | Submit your nomination by February 16th to nancy@occitizensfoundation.org. Nominees may be individuals, organizations, or projects from the public or private sector. Applications should be no longer than one-typed page. A project nomination must be a real place, not just a plan or program. A project must have been in operation for a sufficient amount of time to demonstrate success. There are no distinct categories. Nominations may include any type of place that makes a positive contribution to the built environment. Projects will be looked upon favorably if applicants can answer the following questions: Is there a plan to engage youth? Is there a plan to engage a diverse population? Is this project accessible to all? How did the organizers reach out to the community to develop the project? What groups/governments/organizations were involved? How will the project be sustained? Is there a historical preservation or is local history interpreted in this project? What are its environmental impacts? |
